Policy Paradigms in the Era of Digital State: Implications for Inclusive Governance, Citizenship and Social Transformation
Institute for Human Development (IHD), NITI Aayog, Govt. of India, Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS) are orgnaising the Global Conclave 2024 to mark the close of their Silver Jubilee celebrations. Veena Naregal Professor of Sociology at the Institute of Economic Growth Delhi is convening a panel to dicuss the governance and policy implications of the rapid subsumption of the state’s governance and welfare architecture through rapidly-created digital infrastructures within a restructured planning establishment. Drawing upon their training in diverse fields of law and IT/communications policy, STS studies, sociology, economics and political science, the panelists will deliberate on the implications of such outsourced centralised welfare operations upon democratic mobilisation and participation, access to welfare entitlements; institutional efficiency, accountability and local capacity to reform; infringement of rights to privacy and freedoms; issues of technology transfer and replacement in the global South. IGP’s Jyoti Panday will be participating.
