In light of the upcoming discussions at the 2025 Internet Governance Forum (IGF), IGP is pleased to present its position on, “WSIS and the Future of Digital Governance.” This white paper critically examines the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) process and its relevance in today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.
As we reflect on the significant contributions WSIS has made to Internet governance since its inception, we also recognize the need for a thorough evaluation of its ongoing impact and effectiveness. Our position advocates for a reevaluation of the WSIS process, suggesting that its renewal should not be assumed. We argue that the governance challenges we face today extend beyond the original scope of WSIS, encompassing broader issues such as data governance, cybersecurity, and geopolitical dynamics. We invite you to explore the recommendations outlined in the paper as we collectively navigate the future of digital governance.
