With the influx of Internet connected devices into the market and with the increase in security incidents, IoT security is becoming a more prevalent topic in Internet governance and cybersecurity governance. Some argue there is a market failure in providing security in IoT and it is in need of regulation. In this paper, which IGP has co-authored with the R Street Institute, we illustrate that IoT security is not under regulated and there are various market and hybrid mechanisms that address IoT security.
This paper will be presented as a background paper for our workshop at this year’s Internet Governance Forum. The session will be a debate and is titled Internet of Things and Cybersecurity, Will Regulation Save the Day?
Remote participation will be also available.
